CleanSwap
iOS app in development

What it's made of. Whether it works.

Scan the back of a sunscreen, toothpaste or acne treatment. CleanSwap shows where its ingredients come from and whether the evidence backs it, then judges it against your own skin, hair and preferences.

How a scan works

  1. Photograph the label

Point your camera at the ingredient list. If it's blurry or cut off, the app tells you what to fix before it says anything about the product.

  2. The label is read

Claude reads the product name and ingredients from the photo. It reads. It doesn't judge.

  3. Rules score it

Fixed, sourced rules place the product on both scales and flag concerning ingredients, adjusted for your profile.

  4. You get a verdict

Use it, acceptable, or avoid, with a plain-English reason. If it's not a use, you get a better alternative.

Natural doesn't mean it works. Synthetic doesn't mean it doesn't.

Most ingredient apps hand you one score. CleanSwap keeps origin and evidence apart, because they answer different questions. Zinc oxide is mineral and proven. Benzoyl peroxide is synthetic and proven. Charcoal toothpaste is natural and unproven.

Your preference decides how much origin counts. The evidence floor never moves.

Benzoyl peroxide 5%, nature preference 3 of 10

Use it

Synthetic, clinically proven. For this person, efficacy comes first.

Same product, nature preference 9 of 10

Acceptable

Same scores. The verdict changes because origin matters more to this person. It never drops to avoid on preference alone.

The rules are written down

  • The AI reads labels. Verdicts come from fixed rules, so the same product gets the same verdict every time.
  • Every flag and every rule links to a source, such as EU cosmetics regulation or published safety assessments.
  • When a photo is too unclear, the app asks for another one. It doesn't guess.
  • Your profile and your kit stay on your phone.

Coming to iOS

CleanSwap is being built as a native iPhone app, with Android to follow. It isn't on the App Store yet.
